CTIA 2008: Parrot Introduces an MMS 'Global' Digital Picture Frame

Parrot, a leading provider of wireless peripherals around the mobile phone, today announced a new “global” 7-inch digital photo frame that accepts photos sent to it from a GSM cell phone via MMS – just like a text message — from virtually anywhere in the world.

How it works

Sending photos from a cell phone to friends is as simple as 1-2-3: take a picture with your cell phone: dial the frame “phone” number; send the photo via MMS. No log-in or password is required.

The new PARROT DF7700 digital photo frame has an integrated SIM card with a dedicated call number (just like a cell phone) so that users can send photos across a room or around the world using the cell phone’s Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) capability. This is the technology standard used by cell phone messaging systems that allows a multimedia message to be sent as easily as a text message. MMS also supports multimedia objects such as images, audio, video, rich text and is mainly deployed in cellular networks with SMS, Mobile Instant Messaging and Mobile E-Mail.

What You Need

There are only two requirements for being able to use this innovative feature of sending pictures from any MMS cell phone to the Parrot DF7700 picture frame. First, the cell phone sending the picture must support MMS whether it is a CDMA, GSM or 3G phone.

Second, the photo frame must be located in an area which supports MMS over a quadband network. GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) is a digital system that allows you to use cell phones in five different continents around the world. Different regions of the world use different frequency bands. GSM quadband uses 850/900/1800/1900 frequencies that allow full cell phone coverage in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.

Real, practical benefits

Now, newly weds can send photos instantly back from their honeymoon abroad or families can share photos of new babies with parents and grandparents wherever they are in the world. The possibilities are endless.

Transfers Photos the Traditional Way, too

The new PARROT DF7700 frame also features a USB connection and an SD card slot for more conventional methods of photo transfer. Whatever the source of your photos, the PARROT DF7700 is a real electronic photo album.

It automatically resizes photos to optimize memory and has a capacity of storing over 500 photos in its internal flash memory. These can be displayed on its high-resolution TFT screen in slideshow mode, or as a single picture.

Since the PARROT DF7700 requires a SIM card, it can only be sold by cell phone service providers. Currently, the Parrot MMS digital photo frame is available in France, but Parrot is in discussions with cell phone operators in the U.S.

ABOUT PARROT

Founded in 1994, Parrot has rapidly established itself as a pivotal global player for wireless mobile telephone accessories. Drawing on its tried-and- tested expertise on voice recognition and signal processing technologies, Parrot was one of the very first companies to produce Bluetooth(R)-enabled wireless hands-free car kits, having identified this standard’s vast potential as early as 1999.

Determined to accompany the mobile telephone’s irresistible breakthrough into our day-to-day lives, Parrot has been developing a new range of Multimedia products since 2006, including wireless hi-fi systems and LCD photo frames.

Today, Parrot truly has a major international focus, both in terms of its client base, with 86.6% of sales generated outside of France, and in terms of production, outsourced to carefully selected partners, enabling it to achieve the best possible level of quality and responsiveness. Parrot is now particularly well positioned to capitalize on the bright future opening up for mobile telephone devices.

Parrot has seen sustained growth in its consolidated revenues, which have tripled since 2005. In 2007, Parrot sold over 5 million product units and generated 220 million Euros in revenues, up 32% on 2006.
